Note on gauge vs. plate: 10-gauge steel (~0.135″) and 12-gauge (~0.105″) are technically steel sheet, not plate. Plate starts at 3/16″ and goes up. If you need thinner material, ask about our sheet inventory.

Cut-to-Size & Plate Processing

Bring us your cut list — we’ll handle the rest. Our Apopka yard runs plasma and oxy-fuel torch cutting in-house, so most plate orders are ready same-day or next-day.

  • Plasma cutting — clean, precise cuts on plate up to 1″ thick
  • Torch cutting — heavy plate and shape cutting for 1/2″ and up
  • Drilled, punched, or beveled edges — on request

No job is too small. If you need a single 12″ × 12″ square of 1/4″ plate for a repair, we’ll cut it while you wait.

Steel Plate FAQ

What's the difference between A36 steel plate and mild steel?

A36 is a type of mild (low-carbon) steel — the two terms overlap. “Mild steel” is a generic category covering low-carbon structural steels. A36 is the specific ASTM specification we stock because it’s the most widely used grade for fabrication, structural work, and general shop use. If a print calls for “mild steel plate,” A36 almost always satisfies it.

10-gauge steel is about 0.135″ thick — technically it’s classified as sheet metal, not plate. In the industry, plate starts at 3/16″ (0.1875″) and goes up. If your job calls for 10-gauge, ask about our steel sheet inventory instead.

A 4′ × 8′ sheet of 1/4″ A36 steel plate weighs approximately 326 pounds (10.2 lb per square foot × 32 square feet). Plan your lifting and delivery accordingly.

Yes — we stock diamond (tread) plate in common thicknesses for trailer decks, stair treads, tool boxes, and flooring. Call or request a quote for current sizes.

No. You can buy a single piece or a full truckload at the same competitive pricing. This is one of the main reasons Central Florida DIY builders and small shops choose us.

Yes. We offer next-day delivery across the Central Florida region — Orlando, Apopka, Winter Garden, Sanford, Kissimmee, Lakeland, and surrounding areas. You can also pick up at our Apopka yard during business hours.

The line is thickness. Steel sheet is thinner than 3/16″ (often sold by gauge). Steel plate is 3/16″ and thicker (sold by decimal or fractional inch). Plate is used where strength, rigidity, or impact resistance matters; sheet is used for skins, panels, and lighter fabrication.
